 Job Descriptions:

1. Receptionist  – provides the first impression of the hospital to clients and patients. The receptionists must be friendly, professional and courteous and capable of handling many tasks at once with many interruptions.

  • Performing opening procedures
  • Checking and accurately recording telephone messages from the answering machine
  • Greeting clients and patients in a warm, friendly manner
  • Handling telephone calls promptly and professionally, and taking detailed, accurate messages and /or correctly redirecting calls
  • Becoming familiar with and able to use the hospital’™s computer system
  • Becoming familiar with and able to use the hospital’™s online store
  • Scheduling appointments appropriately
  • Taking bookings for boarding
  • Notifying technicians when patients arrive and having their charts ready
  • Preparing paperwork for estimates and consent forms
  • Maintaining medical records, ensuring that all vaccinations are accurately recorded
  • Updating client information
  • Printing of medication labels and accurately explaining them to clients
  • Promoting and discussing flea/tick/heartworm preventatives
  • Dispensing pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, prescription food and over the counter supplies
  • Mailing thank you and welcome cards
  • Performing daily light cleaning of the waiting and reception areas
  • Checking clients out and processing payment
  • Being familiar with all payment plans offered
  • Reconciling invoices and performing close-outs at end of day

Reports To:

    • Practice Owner
    • Hospital Manager

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:

  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to maintain a calm, courteous and professional demeanor under stressful circumstances
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • A high school diploma or equivalent

Wage Range

  • The range for the position is $9.00 per hour to $17.00 per hour depending on experience.

2. Kennel Attendant – takes care of the everyday needs of boarding and hospitalized patients and assists the Technicians. The kennel assistant must enjoy working with animals. You will have to perform the following duties which may include other duties as needed. This is not an all-inclusive list of activities but an overview:

  • Clean cages, run, exam rooms, bathrooms, hallways, lobby
  • Provide clean litter boxes
  • Collect urine and fecal specimens as requested
  • Feed hospitalized and boarding animals as requested
  • Follow special feeding/cleaning/care procedures as needed
  • Record and report important information about animals’ conditions
  • Take incoming animals to appropriate areas
  • Exercise animals in designated exercise area on business grounds
  • Provide compassionate care to patients
  • Prepare animals for dismissal, for example bathing or brushing
  • Do laundry
  • Maintain storage areas, parking lot, lawn areas
  • Assist doctors and technicians with animal restraint
  • Wash dishes and maintain kitchen/lounge areas
  • Assist doctors and technicians with x-rays
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Reports To:

  • Senior Surgical Technician
  • Hospital Administrator (non-medical inquiries)

Required skills, knowledge, abilities, and physical demands:

  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
  • Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis
  • Is well-spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature.
  • Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members.
  • Has excellent client communication skills
  • Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 50lbs) Walks or stands for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position. Should be able to withstand an 8 hour shift of work.
  • Working Conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces.

Wage Range

  • The range for the position is $9.00 per hour to $11.00 per hour depending on experience.

3. Veterinary Technician – is the veterinarian’s primary medical support. They begin the examination procedure and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis and treatment phases. They aid the veterinarians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a very significant role in communicating with and educating clients about their pets.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) desirable but not required
  • Previous On-The-Job Training when not a LVT

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years experience as veterinary technician or assistant

Personal Requirements:

  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
  • Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis
  • Is well-spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature.
  • Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members.
  • Has excellent client communication skills
  • Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40lbs) Walks or stands for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position.
  • Working Conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.

Wage Range

  • The range for the position is $9.00 per hour to $20.00 per hour. Benefits are outlined in the employee manual and are separate from the hourly wage.
